Vintage Halloween Gallery Wall Ideas: 2 Moody Looks You Can Print This Week

By Calvin Art House · 29 September 2026 · 6 min read

The easiest Halloween decor upgrade isn't a six-foot skeleton. It's a wall of old-world art: witches in ink, ravens on thistle, ghosts drifting over a farmhouse field.

Vintage Halloween art feels like something you found in an antique shop, and it quietly sets the mood from October 1 to the last trick-or-treater. Because these are digital prints, you can have the whole wall up this weekend: download, print at home or at a local print shop, frame, hang. On November 1, swap the prints for autumn landscapes and keep the same frames.

Below are two complete looks, how to frame them, and a layout you can copy.

Look 1: The moody witch's parlor

This look suits dark academia living rooms, reading nooks and bar carts. Think candlelight, deep green or charcoal walls, and brass. The art does the talking: ink-sketch witches, a raven, a manor under the moon.

Frame it: antique gold or black frames with a cream mat. Mix no more than two frame finishes.

Look 2: Cozy farmhouse Halloween

Cozy farmhouse Halloween: the six-print set above an entryway bench.

This look is for kitchens, entryways and family rooms. It's the friendly side of Halloween: ghosts on the laundry line, a scarecrow in the field, pumpkins everywhere. It's spooky enough for October but still warm.

Frame it: natural wood or distressed white frames. In a kitchen, lean two prints on an open shelf instead of hanging them.

Crafty bonus: the Vintage Halloween Paper Dolls print and cut out into jointed pumpkin, owl, cat and witch figures, a fun afternoon project with kids.

How to frame vintage Halloween art

Vintage art looks most like the real thing in frames that could have come from a flea market. Pick a finish from the table, add a mat, and you're done.

Frame finishBest withWhy it works
Antique gold or brassWitch portraits, ink sketchesOld gallery feel; glows under candlelight
Matte blackRaven, skeleton, manorSharp contrast for the darkest prints
Dark walnutLandscapes, village scenesWarm and heavy, like an old study
Natural woodFarmhouse ghosts, pumpkinsRustic and cozy
Distressed whiteTrick or treat, witchy duckSoft, cottage kitchen look

Use a mat. A cream or off-white mat (not bright white) makes a print look expensive and suits aged paper tones. The easy rule: print one size down from the frame.

Print sizeFrame size (with mat)
5 × 7 in8 × 10 in
8 × 10 in11 × 14 in
11 × 14 in16 × 20 in
16 × 20 in18 × 24 in

Paper matters. Print on matte or uncoated paper. Gloss makes vintage art look like a poster.

Hang it like a pro

Gallery wall layout Ten frames in two rows above a console table. The center of the group sits 57 to 60 inches from the floor, with 2 to 3 inches between frames. 57–60 in center to floor 2–3 in gaps console, sofa or bench
Center the whole group at eye level and keep the gaps even.
  1. Lay it out on the floor first. Put the biggest print in the middle, then build outward. Take a phone photo before you pick up the hammer.
  2. Trace and tape. Trace each frame on kraft paper, tape the paper to the wall, and adjust until it looks right.
  3. Center at eye level. The middle of the whole group should sit about 57 to 60 inches from the floor.
  4. Keep gaps even. Leave 2 to 3 inches between frames. Even gaps matter more than matching frames.
  5. Mix sizes, repeat colors. Use 2 or 3 sizes, but keep to one palette so the wall reads as one piece.

Printing your digital download

Each print comes in 5 ratios, so it fits standard US frames. Pick the file that matches your frame size and print it:

  • At home: an inkjet on heavy matte paper works well for 8 × 10 and smaller.
  • Same day in store: Staples, FedEx Office, Walgreens or Costco Photo. Order online and pick it up in an hour or two.
  • Tip: some photo counters ask whether you have the right to print artwork. Bring your Etsy receipt, since your purchase includes a personal-use license.

Swap for fall on November 1

Keep the frames up and change only the art. Autumn landscapes, pumpkins and harvest scenes slide right into the same layout. See our Autumn and fall art collection.

FAQ

Is it too late to decorate for Halloween?

No. A digital download arrives instantly, and a print shop can have it ready the same day.

Will I get a physical print?

No. You get high-resolution digital files to print wherever you like. Nothing ships.

Do the frames need to match?

No, but keep to one or two finishes on a single wall.

Can I use the art after Halloween?

The fall pieces (scarecrow, pumpkins, manor) work through Thanksgiving. The rest can be saved for next October.
